Goodyear resident Gayle Cooper comes to Eloy after
three years as a marketing and business development
consultant with GM Consulting. As of July 2000, she
was granted the title as a certified economic
developer, a national accreditation bestowed on only
1,500 worldwide by the IEDC. -

The meeting was at the Valley Ranch Golf Club and
the topic for this month was energy featuring
presentations by representatives of Global Water
Resources, SRP and Southwest Public Power Resources

promote Eloy to other communities, retail and
industrial company owners, expand the city's web
presence, and "tell Eloy's story," EDGE Board

Approx. 100 people attended this month's EDGE
meeting, at the Robson Ranch Grill last Friday to
put newly discovered theme park planner on the hot
seat about his plans for his project in Eloy called

"A membership in EDGE is an investment that
contributes both the economic health of the city of
Eloy and the future of your business," EDGE Board
President Gene Wilson says in a letter that went out
at the meeting last week. -

The EDGE board also anticipates the passing of its
member packages. Subsequently, Friday's meeting will
kick off the group's membership drive. -

Although it was "a
little outside of what we normally do," Hill said,
Global Water has agreed to fund $500,000 (or
$100,000 a year for five years) to EDGE for
stimulating economic development activity in the
city. -

Blanton also announced
that the city has made a $45,000 commitment to EDGE
-having budgeted a $25,000 contribution and
reserving another $15,000 for attainment of an
office building. -

Slowly
but surely the city's official economic development
group, whose mission is to "foster economic
development in order to improve the quality of life
for residents of Eloy and surrounding region," is
coming into its own. -

Future
business owners and Eloy stakeholders may be
investing a sufficient nest egg for the future of
the city and the Economic Development Group of Eloy
(EDGE) organization.
EDGE Membership Committee members Bambi Sandquist,
John Gluch, City Grants Coordinator Martin O'Haus,
City Manager Joe Blanton, and EDGE President Gene
Wilson presented a proposed membership dues schedule
at last week's meeting, Friday, Feb. 15 held at the
Grande Valley Golf Resort. -

EDGE
officially signed the papers to become an
incorporated nonprofit organization on Dec. 14.
Officers were elected and the first Annual
Membership meeting was held two weeks ago. Members
are Gene Wilson as President, Loren Locher as
Vice-President, Belinda Akes as Secretary/Treasurer,
John Gluch, Toni Lorona, Court Rich, and Ty Lesueur.

Seven community stakeholders who attended the
meeting - among them being landowners, developers,
community members and business owners - volunteered
to sign papers as interim members for the group's
Board of Directors. Members include: Judge Toni
Lorona, Belinda Akes, Loren Locher, Gene Wilson,
Court Rich, John Glutch and Ty LeSueur. At the next
meeting, an official Board of Directors will be
elected. -

The
marketing campaign for Eloy has begun. A group
gathered Friday decided to move ahead with a plan to
draw industry and retail businesses to Eloy. That
plan includes ways to fund it outside the city
budget...
With a roomful of primarily developers and real
estate agents, the balance of retail and residence
came to the forefront. So, too, did the
chicken-and-egg question of, which was needed first
to propel growth. -
